Frequently asked questions
What does lorem ipsum mean?
Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin taken from Cicero’s “De finibus bonorum et malorum” (45 BC). Words were cut and changed, so it has no real meaning, which is exactly why it works as placeholder text.
What language is lorem ipsum?
It is based on Latin, but the words have been altered and mixed, so it is not correct Latin and cannot be translated into sentences.
Why do designers use lorem ipsum?
It looks like real text, with a natural mix of word lengths, so you can judge a layout, font or page design without readers getting distracted by the content.
How do I get exactly 500 characters of lorem ipsum?
Choose Characters, enter 500 and copy the result. The count is exact and includes spaces, so the last word may be cut off.
How long is a lorem ipsum paragraph?
Here, each paragraph has 4 to 7 sentences of 6 to 14 words, so roughly 25 to 100 words, similar to real paragraphs.
Can I get lorem ipsum as HTML?
Yes. Choose “HTML paragraphs” and each paragraph is wrapped in a <p> tag, ready to paste into a web page.
How do I insert lorem ipsum in Microsoft Word?
Type =lorem() on a new line and press Enter. To choose the amount, use =lorem(3,5) for 3 paragraphs of 5 sentences.
